Help me to make a choice with my bathroom remodeling!?

Ok, I already have a brand new faucet for the bathroom sink that I picked up last year for very cheap on clearance. It's color is polished brass. Now I am in need of a shower head and handle to match. The only problem is that polished brass is not a popular color and is very pricey. Also, our vanity handles are a dull gold color. I have found a color called brushed bronze, which is a dull gold as well. I was thinking about just buying a new sink fixture and then a shower one in the brushed bronze, since I feel it looks nicer than the shiny gold. But, would it be silly to buy a new sink faucet, when I already have one? My husband thinks we should just get a polished brass shower kit to save money. Would using the brushed bronze increase the value of our home at all, or should I just save money and go with the polished brass?

Saving money is ALWAYS the better choice.

and about a one inch groove around the perimeter of the basement floor for water to run to the sump pump, can I put the walls up as usual with the bottom board laying part way over the grove in the floor ( I think I should use treated lumber? ) or should the bottom ( base plate) be away from the wall?

no cousins cant marry in some states.

Remodeling My Bathroom black mold on drywall how to remove it or kill it?

Black mold is hazardous to your health, more so than other mold cultures. so take the precaution of careful handling.

Wear rubber gloves, particle masks, and eye protection.
Also take precautions in not spreading mold spores that may cause other grow elsewhere.
if it is a small area that is affected then you can clean it up yourself, if it is a large area, it may require professional clean up.

Use a mild detergent to wipe off. If drywall is heavily saturated than you should replace it discarding it in a sealed garbage bag. also wipe down studs and other adjacent surfaces and dispose of the rags in a sealed bag.

IT IS NOT recommended to use BLEACH as it may worsen the problem and is INEFFECTIVE due to contact time and pH level.
Bleach is NOT recommended
The presence of organic (humic) materials, the pH (acidity/alkalinity) of the water, the surface material and contact time affect the effectiveness of bleach for disinfection. Since these factors are not generally controlled, bleach cannot be relied upon for disinfection. The most compelling reason for advising against bleach is that fumes are harmful but in addition, overuse of bleach will result in increased releases of chlorinated effluents which can be harmful to the environment.

make sure the moisture source is fixed to prevent future mold growth.

If you wish you can purchase special mold killers and inhibitors from hardware stores that you may spray onto the mold.

Also keep any children, and pets out of the bathroom, until you have remedy the problem

"Moldy drywall:
Clean the surface with a damp rag using baking soda or a bit of detergent. Do not allow the drywall to get too wet.

Mold that comes back after cleaning is usually an indication that a source of moisture has not been removed. Seek professional help from a trained IAQ investigator."

Need Help With Remodeling A Basement?

I'm thinking of renting a friends basement. It needs a lot of work though, I'm a very organized, neat freak person and the basement is a train wreck. The bathroom doesn't work, there's a couple doors missing, everything needs painting, tiled, and carpeted. It needs also needs new cabniets. Plus the BIGGEST problem is, we seen a snake down there a couple weeks ago, and I have no idea how to get it out. So all in all, what i need to know is how much/how long do you think it will take to get this place ready to live in?? Should I ask her if I can get months free for fixing it up?? How do i get rid of the snake? PLEASE HELP ME..I'm going crazy.

The first thing you need to determine is if there are any local codes that prevent a basement being used as a habitat.

The next important thing is to have some sort of written agreement covering the cost of making it livable and, or, a lease agreement.

Next, I would hire an exterminator to get rid of the snake, mice, and other critters.

When that is done, clean out anything you don't want or plan on replacing.

Now, get prices from contractors to do any of the work you don't plan on doing yourself.

Remember that it is not your house, so any investment you make belongs to the owner.

Check to see if you can get renters insurance.

Better talk to an accountant, as your friend will have to pay income tax on earned income.

That's enough for now, from me.

Good luck and I hope your wish can become a reality.

I have a few bathroom remodeling questions?

I hate my bathroom. I have a blue toilet, bath tub and sink. I dont have a ton of money to replace everything so i wanted to paint the tub, sink, and vanity and i was going to replace the toilet and the fake wood floor with tile. My question is is it possible to paint the tub and sink from blue to white and will it last?

There are companies that will "re-bath" tubs. There is a way to put a simple white liner type of application on the tub, that will cover all the blue and make the tub look new - at about 1/4 of the price of replacing it. Check around on Craigslist in your area for bath remodelers and get different estimates. Don't paint it, it never works right.

OK, for the floor, you can probably get it done for about 5-6 dollars a sq foot including material. What else did you want? Oh, the vanity... well, you can actually get a new vanity and sink at either HD or Lowes fairly inexpensive and they can install it for you. The entire thing shouldn't cost more than 1500 dollars, which compared to the 12-15,000 to have a full remodel is a total bargain.
