I built a new kitchen entryway and remodeled the kitchen. Besides the structural improvements, top of the line Conestoga solid Lyptus wood doors and drawer fronts were designed and ordered on-line. These are 5 piece mitered cabinet doors and drawer fronts that originally came unfinished. I refinished the original kitchen cabinet boxes with Lyptus 1/4" wood paneling and presssure sensitive veneer. No stains are used in finishing; three coats of Minwax waterbased clear satin polyacrylic were brushed on the lyptus wood surfaces. Note the new overhead cabinet storage with lift up doors created in some of the original cabinet soffits. Also note new locally produced peninsula cabinet addition with hidden appliance hoist, recycling bins drawer, and spare cabinet, and new entry sideboard cabinet with tall overhead lighted glass china cabinet. Topdrawer.com produced several replacement and new dovetail constructed drawers for the old cabinetry, as well as for the new cabinet additions. All upper cabinets have flourescent strip undercabinet lighting, and glass door cabinets have dimmer controlled xenon lamps. The "Pink Fantasy" granite countertops and backsplash are the only professionally installed feature. New kitchen hardware was purchased on-line, including an extra large stainless steel sink, stainless GE Monogram NG cooktop, Insinkerator instant hot/cold water dispenser, Kohler faucet, and built in soap dispenser. Flooring is solid 3/4" Brazilian Redwood hardwood (purchased locally using Craig's List) nailed to an improved original plank subflooring, covered by Armstrong's insulated vapor-barrier underlayment. The kitchen floor, and the original red oak living room floor, were sanded and finished with Bona Kemi "Naturale". Primary lighting in the unfinished ceiling includes six 6" recessed flourescent lamps and an extra large tube skylight. Walls, doorways, ceiling, cabinet soffet molding, as well as baseboards and dinette table are yet to be completed. All this took about two months shopping and labor, but cost less than $15,000- total.
