TOOOOO SMALLL.. Nat. building code would put 36" pre dry wall as too skinny. I would go with a 42" min. so casing trim can be easily installed without riping it down. Good luck.

Check with your local building codes and inspectors they can tell you.

If you went to get a building permit, most codes would require 42"-48" for doorway access, etc. You would find 36" cumbersome.
